Thank you from the Wave Project

This week, our team at SmithCorp Limited received a heart-warming “Thank You” email from The Wave Project, expressing their gratitude for our ongoing support in 2024. It’s an absolute please to support their cause and be a part of their inspirational story.

Plus, thanks to generous donations and fundraising, they’ve hit their donation target and collected enough money to offer free sessions to an additional 125 children in 2025! What an amazing achievement... Well done guys!

However, the waiting list is still long, and there’s so much more to be done! If you’re feeling the spirit of giving this December and want to spread joy this festive season and beyond, check out their website and make a donation today: The Wave Project - Donate and Support our Cause

Fantastic fundraising at the SCCT Charity Ball 2024!

This year the annual SmithCorp Charitable Trust black tie and dinner took place on Saturday 23rd November in the heart of Bristol. As well as being a chance for colleagues from across teams in London, Stockton, Exeter, Bristol and Truro to come together, it was a fantastic evening of celebration and raising money for our inspiring charity partners.

The event, hosted by our fantastic Group Development Director Dan Green, comprised of a 3-course-dinner, our SCCT raffle and a live band and DJ. In between the raffle we were shown about the life-changing work that our charity partners do, from providing hospice care and professional family support services, to expanding financial access to underserved communities around the world.

We were also shown a special video about our 2024 SmithCorp relief trip to Nepal which was accompanied by an emotional speech from two of our volunteers, Cameron and Harriet, who told us about their experiences and what they took away from their volunteering trip.

In the run-up to the ball, raffle tickets were sold in aid of our chosen charities, with prizes ranging from designer sunglasses and theatre tickets to an XBOX, a European weekend city break and the grand prize of a 5* holiday! With 166 SmithCorp guests in attendance - all dressed up in black-tie- it was sure to be a glamorous, social evening. But, thanks to everyone’s generous donations, we raised over £55,200 for our charity partners, topping last year’s total by nearly £2.5k!

This staggering sum means that we can continue to support the incredible work that The RNLI, The Wave Project, South West Children’s Hospice and Kiva do in supporting, saving and changing lives across the UK and worldwide.

To everyone who made this event a success, including Bristol Harbour Hotel & Spa for their stunning venue and team, the generous sponsors who provided 5 star (literally) raffle prizes, and our charitable colleagues, we extend our heartfelt thanks. We look forward to seeing what we can achieve together next year.

Take a look at the video highlights from the SmithCorp Charity Ball 2024 here.

Building Brighter Futures in Nepal – The SCCT 2024 Charity Trip

Eight volunteers. Two weeks. One incredible cause.

When Nepal experienced a series of devastating earthquakes in 2015, communities across the country faced extraordinary challenges. Schools were particularly hard hit, with 9,000 destroyed or severely damaged. In 2016, our SmithCorp Charity Trust (SCCT) sent a team of volunteers to help rebuild those communities, ensuring that children have proper access to education.

This year, we returned to Nepal to build on that team’s work and again prove what collective passion can achieve.

From breathtaking mountain vistas to life-changing encounters with the children of Kathmandu, this experience was extraordinary. Over two weeks, Andrew, Harriett, Cameron, Sam, Milo, Leigha, Fahima, and Amy worked alongside the New Modern English Academy, to build new school facilities. The building of toilets, a classroom, and a playground meant we could bring functionality, education and fun to the students.

The volunteers visited a local orphanage that houses and provides education to children until they are old enough and capable of finding work. Harriet said of the experience “It humbles you as a visitor and it just humbles knowing that they've got such a good support network.”. Seeing these children made it clear what their hard work was for and the many talented kids that would be impacted by their achievements.

Each day brought its rewards—from the joy of working alongside locals to the laughter and smiles of the children, who often reminded the team why their work was so important. Through these incredible shared experiences, our volunteers came away with memories to last a lifetime, but also a profound sense of accomplishment.

After their hard work, our volunteers also took some time to explore the beautiful country of Nepal and immerse themselves in its vibrant culture. Experiencing the lush forest by way of ziplining, to trying out delicious local cuisine and attending traditional dance performances, our team fully immersed themselves. This trip was not just about giving back but also gaining a new appreciation for a culture they may have never encountered.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations that the SCCT raised during our 2023 ball, reaching £52,780. We are looking forward to seeing if we can raise even more this year.

Introducing the new SmithCorp Charitable Trust Grant Scheme!

We have some fantastic news to share: as well as the charity partners we support, RNLI, Kiva, Children’s Hospice South West and The Wave Project, we’ve increased our charitable activities to include our new SmithCorp Charitable Trust Grant Scheme.

Spearheaded by Dan Green, our Group Development Director, this new scheme is a way of supporting local charities, extending the impact that SCCT can have in making a difference.

Since launching this summer, we’ve been able to support Little Scotty’s Soldiers, a British charity providing aid to children whose parents have died while serving in the armed forces; and Touchstone, whose mission is to provide mental and physical support services to diverse communities across the North of England.

We are delighted to be announce that our SmithCorp Charitable Grant Scheme to has recently supported the Cornwall Saracens Basketball Club, an initiative which works to promote the love of basketball, nurture young talent, and build a strong sense of community amongst the youth in the local town.

If you have any charities or initiatives that are close to your heart, your community or you think deserve a little extra support, do get in touch with Dan Green at dangreen@smithcorp.co.uk to discuss the options available.

A Day in the Life of SmithCorp’s Crystal Challenge

This summer we brought all our brands and departments together for a teambuilding exercise… the crystal challenge

We arrived at the picturesque setting of Pennard House in Shepton Mallet. This was a great opportunity to meet with other friends from across other offices and get to know new colleagues who joined our group.

The big surprise? We were about to immerse ourselves in an iconic challenge reminiscent of popular 90s gameshows!

Split into teams, we tackled a series of unique mental, physical, and problem-solving tasks. From building makeshift bridges over "crocodile-infested ravines" to retrieving silver orbs from a “radioactive field”. Our communication was put to the test with blindfolded challenges and navigating a field together using tandem skis.

The highlight of the day was the race to the iconic Crystal Dome. Once inside, each team scrambled to catch as many golden tickets as they could, only one team could leave as winners!

Want to see it for yourself? Dive into our video of the event here. Let us know if you liked it in the section below!

Catching up with The Wave Project

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the UK face challenges with their social, emotional, or mental health?

The Wave Project is on a mission to change this! By combining the healing power of ocean therapy with the excitement of surfing, they provide free sessions to children with additional needs and mental health challenges across the UK. The outcomes are truly incredible - children who take part become more confident, calm, resilient, build friendships and most importantly, rediscover joy.

This month our colleague Dan travelled to Cornwall to meet up with them to learn more about what they’ve been up to, what support is needed in 2024 and, of course, to share some donations collected from across the group to help them spread joy and heal!

They said "We really appreciate your support, and we couldn't fulfil our mission without you. Your sponsorship will support over 2,000 children and young people each year through our award-winning surf therapy. Thank you very much from all the Team ".

No problem at all the Wave Project, we’re proud to be part of your support team!

Check out their incredible work by visiting their website.
